I've had this question asked alot recently so I thought I'd write a mini tutorial to try and help as many people as I can.
In short, and for beginners, adding a signature or "siggy", is the same as adding any other image to your blog post. Meaning, the "siggy" designed by Michelle Laycock or other designer or if you create the image yourself, is normally a PNG file (which is just a file format that preserves transparency). So, just as you would insert a JPG file for your artwork, at the bottom and end of your blog post, you would simply insert another image but this time choose your signature file (which for example might be blogsiggy.png). It's that simple!
That's a great solution to start with as you become more and more comfortable with blogging. The problem is that every time you insert the image, you are inserting it into the background file manager and using up blog storage space (Blogger and Typepad). So, for advanced users you can do the following.
Typepad
- Upload the image to your file manager (Control Panel, Files tab).
- Then right-click on the image and from the shortcut menu that appears choose Copy Shortcut or Copy Link.
- Then create a post as you normally do.
- At the end, the last thing you'll do is switch to Edit HTML view.
- Scroll down to the bottom of all the HTML code you'll see.
- Then start typing <img src="
- Then PASTE the link you just copied.
- Then end it with ">
- So, for example it may say <img src="http://heatherporto.typepad.com/blogsiggy.png">
- Then Publish the post.
- For future posts, simply copy and paste that entire line
<img src="http://heatherporto.typepad.com/blogsiggy.png">
Blogger
- After you have inserted the normal way and have posted it.
- Then, the next time you want to post with your signature, first go and view a previous post in a browser window. Find your signature and right-click on it.
- Choose Properties.
- Then in the middle, there is a target area with a http:// path.
- Select and COPY that path.
- Now, create a new post as you normally would.
- At the end, the last thing you'll do is switch to Edit HTML view.
- Scroll down to the bottom of all the HTML code you'll see.
- Then start typing <img src="
- Then PASTE the path you just copied.
- Then end it with ">
- So, for example it may say <img src="http://www.blogger1.com/heatherporto/blogsiggy.png">
- Then Publish the post.
- For future posts, simply copy and paste that entire line
<img src="http://www.blogger1.com/heatherporto/blogsiggy.png">
So, in short, the advanced way is using HTML to insert the signature. If you get stuck, just ask me for help.
