Thumbtack-purpleI'm excited to share this new series with you, called "101 Blogging Tips". In the series there will be 101 quick, short and sweet blogging tips that you can begin applying to your blog right away!

Tip #5: Using the "Alt" Property.

If you use WordPress and are composing a post and use the Insert Image button there, when you upload an image from your computer for example, then you have additional options such as Image Title, Caption, Alternate text and Description.  I normally enter the Title, Alternate Text and Description. This information is then inserted into HTML code when the image is inserted.

For Blogger and TypePad users, when you insert an image you should then switch to HTML post view to then add at least the Alt property to your IMG tag.  So after you insert an image you will see something like <img src="……a long path here……"/>.  What you then want to do is edit it like this <img alt="Blogs By Heather" src="…..image path here…."/>; which is the Alt property and you would enter keywords and text that represents the image just inserted.  You may also add the Title and Description as well, but definitely the Alt tab as a first step.

Why? Because it improves your SEO!
