Tip #49: Note That You Are an Affiliate
If you are an affiliate of another company, in that you get paid for someone signing up for that service through a link on your site, then you should have some note on your blog that informs your readers that you are an affiliate (some affiliate programs required it so it's a good practice to do it for all).
An example would be my right sidebar, bottom area. It notes I am an affiliate of BlueHost and HostGator. In my dropdown menu under Partners, I list my most popular affiliates (as shown in the snapshot). And on my Recommended Services page, I also denote which I am affiliates of. So I have it listed in three different places.
Affiliate Marketing
There's nothing wrong with being an affiliate or making some extra money, you just need to have it noted on your blog (site) that you are an affiliate to inform your customers and followers.
Some programmes insist that you disclose your affiliate status: Amazon, for example, have a very specific phrase that needs to be used if you are one of the their associates.
But apart from that, I cannot see any reason why you “must” tell your readers. Sure may people believe that it’s a good idea, but there’s a big difference between “should” and “must”
Hi Mary!
I modified the word “must” to “should”. Thanks for reading so thoroughly! But really I think it is good practice. Better to be safe and have it for all even if it is required by some, this way they don’t have to worry about it 😀
