Tip #50: Use the "Feature This Post"

We've discussed a few times in recent articles about making "important information" – that is information you want your customers to see either about a new service, product, announcement, upcoming event – easy for your readers to find!

Another way to do this is using a "Feature This Post" type of feature.  This feature keeps one of you posts at the top!  You can always change your featured post or remove it and then just have your default setting (which is for most to have the most recent post stay at the top).

A common use of this feature is in making an important announcement or to keep a promotion or contest at the top, especially if it is a promotion/contest running for specific set time (like a week).

Quick Tips on How to Set a Featured Post

In TypePad, that is what is is literally called "Feature This Post".  It is on the right side when you are using the Post Editor.

FeatureThisPost
In WordPress, you may have a special theme in place to feature posts and images, but when creating a new post, under the Visibility options, you can choose to "stick this post to the front page".

StickyPost
In Blogger, you have to do this manually but it's not too bad.  Here is my mini tutorial on how to add the "Feature This Post" in Blogger!
