I'm excited to share this series with you, called "101 Blogging Tips". In the series there will be 101 blogging tips that you can begin applying to your blog today! Don't wait, get started now!
Tip #66: Use the Excerpt Feature
This is a popular option in many WordPress themes. It shows a part of your article, say about 200-300 characters and then has a link "read more" which then opens up the full article. In our example above, the WordPress theme used […] to denote the "read more".
You can also achieve this in TypePad. In TypePad, while composing a post, you can use the Split Extended Entry button on the toolbar and that will then force the "Excerpts" feature to be used. Click here to learn more about this feature in TypePad.
This is option is desirable as it allows for many more posts to show on your home page without affecting your load time, and also provides a direct link to your site and keeping the reader on your site longer, and diving deeper into your content. I do not believe Blogger has this ability without any custom HTML coding.
This is 1 of 22 highlighted areas that you should incorporate into your blog layout and design. This article is also part of our "How To Setup a Blog" series we continue to build each week with articles like "Blog Design & Layout: 22 Must-Have Areas" as well as videos.
