Tip #48: Add a Sitemap

Sitemaps make it easier for the crawlers to see the complete structure of your site and retrieve it more efficiently. A sitemap is a document that tells search engines where your pages are and speeds up the indexing of your site.

And with today's tools it's easy to add yourself. You no longer have to create it yourself or hire some to.

• In Blogger, you use Google Webmaster tools. Click here to learn more.
• In TypePad, you go to Settings, SEO, and check off "Yes, generate Google Sitemap".
• In WordPress, you can use a plugin (there are a few). I personally use and install Google XML Sitemaps for my clients. Click on Plugins, Add New. Then do a search inside WordPress for Google XML Sitemaps and that will get you to the plugin as well.
